I could not sleep yesterday as I heard the news about the execution of Stanley Williams, a founder of a gang group in Los Angeles. Stanley also was charged with the murder of four people in the Los Angeles area in 1979. Since then Stanley changed his life while he was in prison and authored 10 books from Death Row. His message was simple and clear: Violence is never a solution. He urged young gang kids to get out before it destroys them and the lives of their family members.
So what did the world gain yesterday of taking another life away and what is really the logical sense behind the death penalty? This man might not be a good man but I am sure that 99% of the population would be content if he could have spent the rest of his life in a prison cell. And how can we ever know if he really committed these crimes. There have been 128 individuals (In America)who were on the Death Row and were proven later on to be innocent.
This is the world that we live in today. A world that has no recognition or understanding of redemption. Redemption, in other words, has no place in the justice system. Our earthly justice system offers no path for conversion. Once marked for condemnation, an offender destiny is fixed. May be I am wrong, I just happen to believe in second chances, we all need those. well said Issam. I'm totally against capital punishment.
Cold bloded killer who murder for people ,no mercy.
this was a tough situation. suffice to say it all comes down to one major factor....arnie needs the votes
Some sins are mortal, and his was irreparable.
Guys, I still think that America is not a better place today becuase of his death. He was doing a noble job from his cell encourageing people in the streets who can not be reached by social workers or teachers. He has the influence and power to affect and improve their and other people lives. I think that whole fiasco of killing him is creepy but that is my own opinion
I am on the fence in many the captial punishment arguements...but in this case I was happy with the execution. What I didn't like was all these actors trying to sway Arnold......and to Jamie Fox, get a life dude, you are pathetic.
Lethal injection was too easy for him and too bad they didn't fry the SOB and have to flip the switch a couple to times. The last 20 years were good to him...watching TV (hell, I don't have a TV in my room), lifting weights (did you see the size of his arms?), free access to a law library, among other perks these ciminals don't deserve. So much money was spent on this piece of ....
For the others who were cleared, was new evidence uncovered or did DNA testing assist. This guy had nothing.
This guy had no remorse..and I doubt every apologized. He didn't even know the names of the victims he killed and his laywer objected to him being asked such a question. I don't think he ever admitted to anything...and never directly spoke out against the Crips.
Why should the taxpayers continue to pay for this guy to stay in prison.
Luai, this man might not be a good man however, he was doing something noble from his cell. He was reaching out to a proportionate slide of a marginalized population who adopted a violent lifestyle and can not be reached by any other means( Social workers, teachers,etc...) He was respected among them and they could trust him because he experienced what they are experiencing right now.
To take his life was useless additional step that benefited no one at all.
Besides, believe it or not, It costs more to put one through the death penalty than the money you spend on him serving a life sentence in prison. I was shocked myself to know that but you can do your own research if you want.So financially we are not waisting the taxpayers money.
Regarding the lethal injection. I think that using it is for own personl sake and not for him. We "the society" want to look civilized doing it in a "nice" aesthetic way. Call it what you want, it is still medieval
He was like the whore that was cloaked into nun garment, how can you murder 4 people and then come back to preach virtue? That is the ultimate hypocrisy! His benedictions were as phony as his false pretense of acting as a good guy. The victims families didn't feel the cloture to their anguish until they learned that he was no longer there to hurt someone else.
Hatem, that is pretty harsh. People change. This guy committed this crime 20 years ago. Would you act the same way if you are 20 years older? Besides, we do not really know if he is the one who committed this crime. It is always good to be safe than wrong. May be he was innocent!!
nothing justifies taking away life, getting into this in details would take forever. But even if he did do these killings, we can not be the people to take his life away...we dont know what was going on in his head, we dont know every single event that occured to him that might trigger such maddness...
I do believe that ofcourse governments have a duty to isolate criminals from society....but killing them, no that is not right.
my spammyyy....sorry
Submit your blog to http://www.iopblogs.com its a geographic aggregator, its in beta stage for now, but we already have some countries up...i would love it if Jordan was next (my home country)
For me, his attempt at restitution without repenting for his obvious crime is empty.
There have been may prisoners who have become Christians before their executions who exhibited a changed life post-conversion. But they ALL reached out to the families of their victims. And were executed anyway.
OFF TOPIC
Hey Issam, any idea why no Jordanian bloggers talking about Iraq's elections? There are proud purple fingers all over the city, a higher than expected turn-out, and lot's said on Iraqi blogs, but no comments from the neighborhood!
Kizi, I hear pointview. I still disagree with the death penality as a principal. This guy might not be a good man and should have spent the rest of his life in a prison cell. However, killing him was a useless additional step that benefited no one.
Regarding the Iraq election. I think that it is an interesting observation. I do not know why, may be they are waiting to see the results! or subconsicously opposing it:-)
Our civil laws speak our true nature as humans. No matter how civilized we become, our power to forgive will never be comparable to the kind of forgiveness that Allah offers those who repent.
I believe that Stanley and others like him do not need human law to grant them redemption, because they already got it from God. However, it is society that has lost everything he would have given, or any positive effect he would have had on the lives of young kids if he had lived.
Good point Laith and thanks for your comment
Hi issam
in response to your article, are you sure its 99% of the population? How about the victims and their family? Should society pay for his cable TV and wightlifting in jail while there are other important needs that need to be paid for with our finite tax dollars?

P.S.
I like your blog!!!
Hi Sean. Good to hear from you. I see that Kristin hooked you up with Shifaa :-) May you are right that 99% of the population were against the excution but let us face it, the majority of the population would not have heard about the name of this guy if it was not for the excution news. Regarding the tax payers dollars, believe it or not, it is more expensive for the government to excute than to keep ones for life sentence. Do you know how many courts that guy had to go through to end up in that mideval room of "lethal injection"?
All these extra costs could have been prevented. Regarding the TV cable and weight lifting, they're providing it to the prsioners anyway so what is the big deal of adding another chair in that room.
P,s I see that you are in Virginia, we are too as well. Hope that we can get together before we leave. However, I am not sure about our schedule this time. Peace and blessings to the family
