Body obsession

Soad Nasr, a famous Egyptian actor died today after she went into a long comma(one year) while undergoing a cosmetic plastic surgery for removing excess fats operation. This sad news comes as physique obsession becomes a new phenomena in the Arab World. Traditionally plumpness has been considered attractive and associated with fertility and caring. However things are changing rapidly, many thanks to the contagious Hollywood culture that passes it now as we speak to Cariowood. Cario is considered to be the Hollwyood of the Arab World.

Typically, Eating disorders are divided into two important syndromes: anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

• Anorexia nervosa. For a definite diagnosis, all the following are required: body weight maintained at least 15% below the level expected, the weight loss is self-induced, there is body image distortion and widespread endocrine disorder.

• Bulimia nervosa. For a definite diagnosis, all the following are required: persistent preoccupation and craving for food, frequent attempts to counteract the fattening effects of food and a morbid fear of being fat.

Parents watch out for your daughters when you see any of these symptoms. Early intervention is essential for effective treatment.

A lot is not, a little is fine, and too little is definitely over the line.
