Conservative commentator and breast cancer survivor Laura Ingraham caused a stir when she told 24's creator David Surnow that watching torture scenes on his hit show 24 was therapeutic relief from her chemotherapy treatments. In case of you don't know what I am talking about so far, Laura was referring to the Emmy award-winning Fox new work drama 24. The drama features counter-terrorsim agent Jack Bauror confronting terrorism plots typically orchestrated by Arabs or Eastern European terrorists in the span of 24 nails-biting hours. The question that ruminates in my little mind is: What kind of world are we living in these days? and why would Ms. Ingraham make such an inflammatory statement?
The sad reality is that and since the September 11th terrorist attack, the number of torture TV scenes increased to more than 100 a year, which indicates that our collective conscious as a society is increasingly becoming tolerant to this abomination. In my opinion, torture whether was glorified, rationalized or minimized has no place in a pluralistic democracy or in God's plan for human kind. The difference betweem me and Ms. Ingraham is that MS ingraham is more honest with herself and others. I along with the other 14 millions people who turn to Fox network every Monday to watch the show condemn state-torture in the day but end up as addicts watching it on our sitting room in the night. Who said that truth does not hurt?
